Effexor withdrawls after 10 yrs! (with a question about Cymbalta)
I am a person with Lupus. I guess depression goes along with it so after I was diagnosed I was put on some of the old style antidepressants and they did nothing. The next try was Zoloft, it worked but had some unpleasant stomach side effects. Then I went on Prozac, it also worked but I gained 25 pounds! I begged my doctor to put me on something different, well that different was Effexor. It worked pretty well and I seemed pretty normal on it. Eventually I got up to 300 mg. per day, I had gained my weight back again and was depressed.
My Rheumotologist wanted me to go off Effexor and try Cymbalta. I followed his instructions. The first week I cut my dose in half, for days I was crying, and not sleeping. Finally I did get used to the 150 mg dose.
Then I was supposed to quit and start the Cymbalta. I did that and by the 3rd day I thought I would die. My stomach hurt so bad I was doubling over, I was dizzy, had migraines, terrible nightmares and night sweats, fuzzy headed, and had the most horrible muscle and joint pain I ever had, even with my lupus.
I called my doc "to his credit he had told me Effexor was hard to get off of" but I thought it was the Cymbalta making me feel like hell. He
told me it was probably Effexor withdrawls and to go back on 75 mg.
Now I am taking a low dose of Cymbalta and Effexor. I have decided I don't want to be on another antidepressant when they are so hard to get off of. I couldn't be that depressed, and how much worse could the depression be that this?? and am I stuck for life on pills that change my brain??
Please anyone let me know if they are on Cymbalta and if I should take it, or just go off all of it eventually. I thought I was tough because I quit smoking cold turkey 25 years ago, that was CAKE compared to this!!
Take care Everyone!
