Effexor XR Withdrawal reply

My name is Laura and from New Jersey. I read your story on the site "Emotional Healing". Well, it sounds like exactly what I am going through right now. In short, in 2004, I had a nervous breakdown, began treatment with my psych. and in December, 2005, was prescribed Effexor XR.

Well, within 2 weeks, I began to feel queasy, nausea, headaches, spine/joint pain, and many other symptoms. I told my psych at our next visit (end of 12/05), and he said to wait 2 weeks and see him again.

I go to make the damn appt. and was told that he would be on and off of vaca and I had to wait 5 weeks.

Well, just this past week, I have been calling into his service, missing his return call and then he told me to STOP taking the Effexor and call his service in the a.m., tell them how I am feeling and request them to have him return my call.

Well, he didn't return the call and I am now going through withdrawal (nausea, vomiting, headaches, Vertigo, mania, etc.) ... which I was told by my psych "you haven't been on it long enough ... it's too soon for that to happen".

Doesn't he realize I am an INDIVIDUAL with a unique system???? Yes, this can be happening to me!!!

Well, like you, I visited the ER last night (called before I went to see if they had a psych on staff and was told yes), was seen by an MD who said there was no psych on tonight ... I told him "that is who I need to see and if I can't don't do anything else to me ... I will leave".

Well, that's what I did about 1 hour later after patiently waiting .... I pulled the line out of my vein in my hand, put a bandage on it and walked right out. No one from the hospital even called me ... I surely did not sign the discharge papers! So, today I went to an "Emergi-Care" facility ... explained my whole story to the Dr. and let him know that I am now having symptoms of Vertigo and AGAIN I was looked at like I was crazy!

He said I did not have vertigo and that he really could not do anything for me .. I should get in touch with the Crisis hotline .... UNBELIEVABLE!.

What the hell is wrong with the medical profession??? No wonder why the med-mal insurance rates are sky high ... and I have to say they rightfully deserve it! Well, I just wanted to let you know I had a similar encounter as you and that you are not alone. My poor husband and 2 year old son are getting the brunt of this and that is not fair!!! I sure do hope you are doing better. I will be on the search for a new psych. tomorrow!
